Co-Education

Coeducation means educating the boys and girls in the same institution. It was the modern concept. It was first introduced in Switzerland. Letter on it was adopted by another country of the west. In our country, it was popular in vocational institutions. There exist two schools of thought about coeducation. First, they say that our country is poor and underdeveloped we cannot afford separate education for both genders. Second, the boys and girls began to have an understanding at the college level. Coeducation also produced in both sexes a healthy competition in their studies. The boys also become more civilized and polished in the presence of girls. The girls also gain something in the presence of boys.

If they allow mixing with each other it bounds to produce a spirit of goodwill, trust, and mutual understanding. But it has some disadvantages. First, in hot countries like Pakistan, coeducation makes the boys and girls alive to sex matter. The boys run after girls. The girls also feel proud of their boyfriend. Thus these tendencies make to neglect their studies. Moreover, girls lose their feminine qualities. They lose their feminine charm. Second, the period of youth is characterized by irresponsibility and immaturity. The fear that free mixing of both sexes leads to terrible consequences. Therefore our religion forbids the free mixing of both genders at any stage of life. So we should not introduce it at the university level, because it has much harm. However, we can continue it at the primary level.
